Updates 2008-07-12

Elfpack got several updates Saturday 2008-07-12. These are the main ones:

New buttons

The buttons are more 3D. The colour-scheme is the mixture of the prison and Australian themes of Elfpack. The grey is the prison, the yellow in the blue is the burning sun, the general background colour is sand and the buttons are wood. The colours came here because so many were wishing for colours.

The right column

The right column is totally re-organized. The important stuff is more to the top now. The bookmark-button is placed on top right instead of somewhere on the page.

There are generally less ads for logged in members now. You have a big ugly ad right on top of your house though, but those ads should be targetted to what you have written in your house, so it can't only be bad... (Says the greedy king who wants all your gold!)

Small stuff

You have a button for a random wiki-page, you can comment on a diary note in your own diary, you get hints if the one you're commenting on in a forum is a member of an other forum where you might want to place a reply, members automatically watch wiki-pages they comment on, you can watch the comments to polls, and there are many more estetic fixes, bigger textareas and such.

Last visitors

You now have to click on "Add me" to get added to the last visitor list, so you'll get fewer people there, but you'll know the ones you get have actually pressed that button. There is also a last visited page, so that people can see if you have been a good Elfpacker and visited many houses.

Previews

You now have preview-buttons so that you can check how the pseudo-HTML looks like before submitting it.

Mood history

Your mood-editing have moved to your house. But you'll get history of the previous moods your friends have had. So if someone writes "I went there", you can see it afterwards even if you weren't active at the site at that moment.

Updates 2008-07-28

You can invite people to a wiki-page! Everyone will only be invited once to a wiki-page, so there is no risk that anyone gets flooded with invitations from a single wiki-page even if everyone sends everyones invitations to it.

Orders of the wiki and member changes are in order of with the last update first now.

It's now easier for the crew to badge people.

Everything, especially the forums and the wiki-pages, is much faster now.

You have a list of "Interesting people:" down to the right. It's selected by looking at whom you are watching. If someone else watches the same person as you are, you'll have a chance of seeing someone who that person is also watching, but you aren't watching yourself. Or to make it simple: It shows someone that someone like you might have on watch.

Please comment on this page if something isn't perfect! There are probably loads of bugs and mis-features because the upgrade is so extensive.

Updates 2008-08-03

You now have the Mainstuff items on watch, unless you start to unwatch them. And the new messages and guestbook messages links only appear if you have something new there.

2008-07-12 [DragonicTunes]: Just change it back, it's gross like really bad, and the order of the boxes on the side are not in the most important order for a lot of people I know
I personally care about my friends and what their moods say, and I liked being able to change my mood from any page.

2008-07-12 [Geistwolf]: Yeah, not wanting to be rude or anything, I know how much work it is two change and run a site, but this is really hard to get used to. I very much liked the previous version of Elfpack... its the Elfpack I've always known! XD

I like the 'preview' feature you have added, but I highly dislike the new layout at the side of the page and the way adverts appear at the top of my house. I felt the grey worked better too :/ It's nice to have tried something new but it just doesn't work all too well. Sorry Hedda :(

2008-07-12 [My Sky's The Limit]: I love how you took the effort into changing elfpack so everyone can feel more comfortable on it...but this is just way too confusing. I'm SO glad I've kept the grey and not the mustard yellow Australian sunrise whatever that people keep complaining about. And my buttons along the top are now in this ridiculousley huge white box and they're all vertical...
That, and I have to scroll a mile to see who all's online. And the only 3D buttons on mine are for wiki-related reasons.
There's too much stuff about elfpack for all of it to be shoved to one side. I couldn't find the 'edit page' button for fifteen minutes, and I'm not overexaggerating.
That, and EP has been running a tad bit slower...It's hard to navigate through my notes and password protect pages that are for me and friends only because I don't want randomers commenting...

I LOVE Elfpack, don't get me wrong...but good lord...

What's so hard about seeing who's online? You're online friends list is pretty high up. The online members link, is further down down, which annoys me a little too, but not everything can be at the top.

2008-07-12 [Wolfe In Chef's Clothing]: I dont know about the rest of you, but mine is salmon pink? No idea why, I've got gold buttons, and really? Its making me queasy. I liked the setup on the side the old way.
I meen I think its good to make changes, but this? No not this. Change the color? Maybe? But not salmon pink. No offence to anyone but seriously...

2008-07-12 [nevan]: Mine is also that colour scheme, which I must admit I am not keen on, but its the side setup that's really got me confused @_@; It's far more confusing now - especially for longer time members of Elfpack, which can't be a good thing. It would be a terrible shame to see people leave EP because they can't get on with the new layout :(

2008-07-12 [Wolfe In Chef's Clothing]: *Nod* It would be a shame, I meen, I started out on Elftown and moved to here because of better friends and a less nauseating color. I'm not trying to be rude or anything but the layout is confusing. And like in wikis? The username thing and who runs the wiki and what not being at the top? I'd rather see my friends and things then that. *Shrug* personal opinion.

But the new colour scheme? Nah. I like the old layout, it's alot less...confusing :)

2008-07-12 [Ranaha]: My house page is pretty strange it's taking two scrolls to get down to what it says.... and there's a huge space is something supposed to be there? I like the 3-d buttons they pop out at you though the ADD ME button is kinda annoying. i like seeing everyone who visits me... :(

2008-07-12 [DragonicTunes]: It's not so bad for me on the shroomish layout, but I liked the 3d buttons too which aren't on this layout, and the sidebar still bothers me.
Couldn't there be a way for each member to customize which things go first or not? I'm sure there wouldn't be anymore complaints about it

2008-07-12 [Hedda]: [DragonicTunes]: It's a bad idea to make things too configurable. It will become very hard to help people and it will lead to all sorts of problems. And that people think they know in what order things should be, doesn't mean that they actually know if given the chance to decide. Most people will just flipp around stuff until they drive themselves crazy, or they will simply go with the default.

I suppose I could get use to the sidebar after a while but it will take time because its just very confusing for me. But thanks for the normal color back

2008-07-13 [entire parenthesis]: No matter what Hedda does there will always be a series of malcontents im sure there were people who didnt like the old layout and there are people who dislike the new one but in a week you probably wont even remember the old one anymore.

It's only been like this a few hours give a chance atleast you know wait a week see how you feel then no one likes change but atleast embrace it and stop pissing about it. You might even come to like it once you get over the change.

2008-07-13 [entire parenthesis]: Personally i feel as though there should be more common colours like greens and reds and not fancy wood colours and pale orange/yellow. I mean theres nothing wrong with those colours but it'd be nice to see something a little more striking

If you go onto some peoples houses where they have donated and they can input colours well on the ones who only change the odd word and line and that really vary the colours those houses look amazing with there sparse flashes of colour

I personally just press TAB SPACE (or ENTER if I'm using Opera) after I've written a comment or message.
